Make summer worth it

1/28/17

More ideas I have planned for my summer include thrift shopping from store to store for hours, looking for books to add to my collection and clothes that have personality, all for a cheap price.

Next one is pretty simple, but It’s something I always wished I was able to do in my previous years of high school. Find a daring shade of lipstick, like a burgundy and take on the world.

Then to fulfil one of my dreams, I need to locate a Tiffany’s store, dress up and eat my breakfast in there, like in the movie 1961 Breakfast at Tiffany’s film. What girl doesn’t want to be like Audrey Hepburn?

One last thing I would love to participate in is the Color Run, don’t really like to run, but I do like the way your clothes and hair look when your done.

Until next time…

So you don’t spend summer on Netflix

1/27/17

Here are some ideas that are manageable and fun to do over the summer. I know from my experience that I have all these ideas that I plan do when I have the time and energy over summer vacation, yet never actually happen. Summer of 2017 won’t let me down after the list I have come up with.

Spend the day at South Haven with some friends, but make sure you look at the weather before setting out. Wind and fifty degree weather doesn’t scream beach day.

Something I have never had the chance to do is sleep under the stars in the bed of a truck. Cliche, but to me it’s the epitome of a carefree summer.

Lastly is head to a drive-in movie theatre and watch an old classic like Casablanca or Grease in your junker of a car.

Until next time….

Winter Jam 2017

Winter Jam 2017 is Christian music’s largest annual tour, lasting four months. I went to the tour’s third performance in Grand Rapids, MI at the Van Andel Arena with my youth group. Bands such as And
y Mineo, Britt Nicole, Tenth Avenue North, Newsong and Crowder were there to perform. lex-em

The tour delivers a diverse group of Bands from post-hardcore, rap, pop, and softer worship.

The bands that made the concert were Tenth Avenue North with their humorous stage presence, Andy Mineo and the way the audience just came alive as he rapped and Crowder performing his hits that everyone knew.

Fantastic Beasts & Where To Find Them

12/14/16

bookfbFantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them movie and classification book was first inspired by J.K. Rowling’s briefly mentioned character Newt Scamander in the Harry Potter series. Newt’s fascination with beasts lead to him to write a book about his findings. This textbook is taught at wizarding schools around the world, such as Hogwarts — it was a first-year textbook read by Harry Potter. From that Rowling wrote a few books in addition to the Harry Potter series, Quidditch Through the Ages, The Tales of Beedle the Bard and Fantastic Beasts and Where to find Them. So this book was only inspiration for the recently released movie, not an adaptation like the previous films. What makes this book a must in your collection is it has handwritten notes from Harry Potter himself as it is his copy of the book from when he went to Hogwarts. “That’s what you think”, “Hagrid’ll be getting some any time now” and “Has Hagrid read this book?” are just some of his comments. It also has a forward written by none other than Albus Dumbledore and an introduction with history and why Magiczoology matters. If you are looking for a book to read based on the Fantastic Beasts movie, there is a screenplay. This book gives greater depth into the beasts of the wizarding world.

Should student journalists save local political reporting?

I think it is a great experience for student journalists to step up as the need for news opens up. I think that a student accredited journalism school is possible because students can be just as capable as someone from an already established source. I think it’s the people who read the news that are the ones making student coverage so difficult to accredit. Though student journalists can provide statewide news, I don’t think they should be doing it all themselves because of they don’t have the finances and they have summers. If they worked closely with a credible source I think it would be a good balance.

How do you tell when news is biased

It is not that the news is biased, it’s that the reader is biased. Many think that if you read one thing that they thought was biased they categorize the whole source as biased. People choose where they will read their news based on judgement and influence, whether it’s CNN or a University of Michigan. Journalists have to report the facts fairly without bias, but everyone has differing beliefs and ideas and an article can’t please everyone. Just because you don’t like what is happening or being said doesn’t mean the journalist or source can be blamed for being biased. Criticism is dependent on assumptions, studies show that if you feel strongly for a group like Republican or Democratic that you are likely to see news more biased. When a story was published under a different identity strong Democrats thought the review was in favor of Democrats when they believed it was written by a Democrat. If people think of the journalist as one of them, the news seems less bias.

Worth A Thousand Words

I think photos of wounded and deceased soldiers should be allowed to be taken, but with some humanity and consideration of the family. Pictures have a tremendous impact on the news and what people choose to look at due to the technological age we live in. A picture can say so much more than an article can sometimes because seeing the damage and the corrupt world is harder and more grim than reading about it. I think it is important that people see what soldiers of their country are faced with across seas. It can be easy to forget that we have soldiers out fighting to keep the rest of us safe, while so many live comfortably. We need to be reminded of the sacrifice, but the family should have a say in if it is posted anywhere. They shouldn’t have to see a deceased son, daughter, father in the news if they didn’t agree with it.
